Enabling RTSP for Private IP Monitoring
To use your TP-Link VIGI or Tapo cameras with third-party software like this feed viewer, you must first create a specialized Camera Account. This is different from your standard TP-Link ID.
Step 1: Open the VIGI or Tapo App
Ensure your camera is powered on and connected to your local network. Open the official mobile application on your smartphone.
Step 2: Navigate to Camera Settings
- Select your camera from the home screen.
- Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the top right corner.
- Go to Advanced Settings.
Step 3: Create a Camera Account
Look for the Camera Account or Device Account menu. Here, you will set a unique username and password specifically for RTSP and ONVIF access.
Step 4: Identify your Private IP Address
In the same settings menu under Device Info, locate your camera's IP Address (typically starting with 192.168.x.x). This is the address you will enter into the RTSP Feed Viewer.
Step 5: Connect to the Feed
Use the credentials you just created in the "TP-Link and RTSP Camera Feed" application. The viewer will automatically handle the RTSP URL construction for you.
Troubleshooting Private IP Access
- Ping Check: Ensure your PC can "see" the camera by pinging its IP address in the command prompt.
- Port 554: Ensure your router or firewall is not blocking port 554 (the standard RTSP port).
- Sub-Stream vs. Main-Stream: Use the "Low" quality setting in the viewer if you experience lag on a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection.
